Organic Mountain Blueberries in Syrup
Exquisite wild mountain blueberries in syrup, certified organic. Obtained only from the collection of fruits in the upper Modenese Apennines, between Fanano and Sestola. Subsequent processing is also carried out on site, in the heart of the mountain. Blueberries in syrup are prepared by adding water syrup and organic cane sugar. A unique product of its kind to enjoy the flavor of wild black mountain blueberries all year round.
The wild blueberry is a completely spontaneous fruit, which is neither sown nor cultivated by man. It is found in the areas of both Northern Europe and the high belt of the Modenese Apennines above 1500 meters above sea level. In Italy it is recognized as the "Biological Blueberry of the Modenese Apennines". The fruits are collected strictly by hand, with special craft tools (see photo). To grow adequately it needs climatic conditions characterized by an alternation between cold and snowy days in winter and long and sunny days in summer. The berries are deep blue on the outside with purple and red hues on the inside. Wild blueberries ensure a very high content of anthocyanins (almost 8 times more than the cultivated blueberry) and polyphenols, which perform important antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. This is a truly natural product and obviously 100% organic, since the production process is still the same as always.
For the products based on wild blueberry typical of the Modena Apennines and other wild berries we have selected a symbolic reality of our territory, namely the i Rodi farm. A family-run business located in Fanano on the Apennines in the province of Modena. In this place everything happens: the cultivation, harvesting and processing of the fruits of the territory, between green meadows and chestnut woods. As it is obvious that for a reality of this type, all the cultivation of fruits is organic and the production cycle has almost zero impact on the environment. The Blueberry is wild, therefore it is harvested only in the woods and is not cultivated, while blackberries, red currant, black currant, strawberries and raspberries are both harvested and cultivated. Everything is worked in a small artisan workshop on the site which gives rise to a small production of the highest excellence. The Azienda Agricola i Rodi, is one of the very few excellences that boasts the mark of the Modena Chamber of Commerce for products based on wild blueberry of the Modenese Apennines, which assures us of the certified origin, its characteristics and unparalleled peculiarities.
