Extra Virgin Olive Oil - Colline di Romagna PDO "500 ml"

The production, processing and packaging area of Colline di Romagna PDO extra virgin olive oil comprises part of the territory of the provinces of Rimini and Forlì-Cesena, in the Emilia-Romagna region.

The olives must be harvested by hand or by mechanical means directly from the tree, avoiding contact with the ground. The harvesting period must be between 20 October and 15 December each year. The olives are transported to the mill in rigid, ventilated containers. The only treatments permitted are defoliation and washing at room temperature of the olives before milling, which must take place as soon as possible and in any case within two days of harvesting.

There are traces of the presence of olive trees in this area since prehistoric times. The continuous presence of this plant in the Rimini area is attested with the Villanovan Age (10th to 8th century B.C.). Various sources testify to the widespread cultivation of olive trees in the area around Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna; numerous oil mills also underline its importance in economic terms.

Characteristics

Colline di Romagna PDO extra virgin olive oil is green to golden yellow in colour, with a medium to intense fruity olive aroma with a possible slight grass or leafy scent. The flavour is fruity with a slight perception of bitterness and pungency and possible hints of almond, artichoke and tomato.

Pairings

Colline di Romagna PDO extra virgin olive oil has an intensely aromatic flavour that makes it particularly suitable as a condiment for full-bodied dishes. In fact, it goes well with first courses, grilled meat dishes, baked fish, raw and grilled vegetables.
