Peach and Nectarine of Romagna PGI
There are several differences between Peach and Nectarine of Romagna.
The peach has a bright red skin uniform with yellow-orange shades, an intense and persistent scent with soft, sweet, sugary and juicy pulp.
The Nectarine is instead bright red in color, with a glabrous skin, a fresh and fruity scent and a very consistent pulp, crunchy, aromatic and slightly less sweet than peach.
The richness in mineral salts, water and vitamins makes both fruits very moisturizing for the body and excellent sugar reserves and energy for the body, especially in the summer months when it is warmer and the organissimo needs these nutrients.
They will be delivered in boxes or bags with a sticker, protected from possible impacts.
The production area of Peach and Nectarine of Romagna PGI extends to many municipalities in the province of Bologna, Forlì-Cesena, Ferrara and Ravenna, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
The systems used are those traditionally used in the area. The forms of breeding allowed, in volume, are traceable to the "Emilian vase" and its modifications; on the wall the forms can be used are the "palmette", the "Y", the "fusetto" and their modifications. The cultivation practices include at least one winter pruning and two green pruning operations, depending on the needs of the plants. Where possible, plant protection of prevailing use must use integrated or biological control techniques. Harvesting is usually done by hand between late spring and late summer. If the fruit is preserved, refrigeration must be used. The humidity and temperature values inside the cold storage rooms must ensure the maintenance of the specific quality characteristics.
The origins of the cultivation of Peach and Nectarine of Romagna PGI date back to the nineteenth century, when in the province of Ravenna were set up plants for the cultivation of this fruit. Since then, orchards have become more and more widespread in various areas of the provinces of Bologna, Ferrara and Forlì, ensuring that, over the years, the product was increasingly known, appreciated and marketed abroad. The vocation of the Emilia-Romagna region for this type of production is confirmed by the role it played in the birth of specialized Italian fruit growing and by having excelled since the post-war period in terms of quantities produced compared to other regions.
